Photography Archive // January

One of my 2017 resolutions is to improve my photography skills, not necessarily for my blog, but I generally want to up my photography game and become better at it. In order keep track of how my photo taking skills have developed throughout the year, I wanted to keep a monthly photograph log that combines a few bits and bobs I've done each month with a collection of photos I've taken. It also encourages me to take my camera around on daily basis so I can snap things that inspire me.

So, here is the first (of many, I hope) photography archive and a bit of a chit-chat about what I got up to this month.

NYC

Of course, at the beginning of January I was in super cold and snowy New York! The trip was amazing and I have a tonne more photos in a NYC blog post if you'd like to have a little browse. I didn't want to repeat the photos so I thought I'd share my most favourite experience... the Top of the Rock. So many breathtaking and stunning views of the city from above! Cannot wait to go back, one day.

COUNTRYSIDE GETAWAY

Next up, I went on a little countryside retreat with some friends and here are a few photos I took. I had just bought a new lens (finally!) and was experimenting with its main quality - depth of field. I think some of the photos came out quite good but I definitely need to practice more. The one I got was the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, if you're wondering.

COFFEE SHOPS & CATCH-UPS

I love finding pretty coffee shops to sit and work in and this month, my friend Zainab (check out her baking blog here) and I went to Northern Cobbler (Queens Road, Leicester). Since the crockery and sweet treats we got were too pretty not to photograph, I took a few shots, again experimenting with the new lens.

BOTANIC GARDENS

One of my favourite places to go for a walk is the Botanic Gardens and I hadn't been for a while so I thought I'd go for a little wander with my friend. I love admiring the pretty plants and sculptures they have. Also, the cacti and succulent greenhouse is what I aspire my future home to look like!

And that's a wrap for January 2017! I'm quite happy with how the photos came out, especially the results with the new lens. Definitely going to explore its features more and see what else it is capable of doing!
