Five Steps To Stop Yourself From Procrastinating

Procrastination. I do it. You do it. We all do it! And we all admit to doing it. We just can't help ourselves sometimes. Right?

When I need to get work done, I usually am quite good at focussing and getting shizz done. Yet, there are times where I can't help but get distracted by playing Sims 4 (the BEST, btw) or reading blogs - who is with me?!

Fear not ladies and gentlemen... for I have some solutions that may help you in this time of need. Whether you are a blogging, studying, working... I got you!


#1 Do the hard stuff first
Sometimes I find that I am procrastinating because I have a huge big fat task on my to-do list. So instead of doing the smaller bits first (and taking the easy way out) start with the harder tasks. That way when you finally get it done and out of the day, there is a huge weight lifting off of your shoulders.

#2 Work against a timer
If you work better under pressure, this one is for you! Set a timer that you think you'd get the task finished within. That way when you are working, you are racing against the clock which could make you actually get some work done.

#3 Have breaks, but don't be too generous
I find that working for about 45 minutes and then having a 15 minute break keeps me motivated and more likely to be productive. Find a balance that works for you and stick to it. I can work for quite big time slots and therefore my breaks are less frequent and for a short period of time.

#4 Get rid of all distractions
Even if it means putting your phone in another room, popping headphones on, blocking specific websites using your browser settings - just get rid of it all.

#5 Reward yourself
There is nothing better than treating yourself after a very productive day. I'm the type of person to feel guilty or restless if I have a looming deadline and I have yet to get started. So, after you finally get the task out of the way you can look forward to a reward. I recommend Ben & Jerry's, McDonalds or an evening off!

  2. I find making sure that the desk I'm sat at to do my work is clean first makes me find it easier to not procrastinate because otherwise I'll get distracted! So many amazing tips here that work so well!
