The Homemade Hydrating Face Mask

Last month, I was struggling with a few skin issues and mostly dry patches around my face. I was trying all sorts of face masks to help calm my skin down and clear it up but nothing was really working... until I decided to try making a homemade mask.

I searched for natural ingredients that were beneficial for dry and sensitive skin and avocado was probably one of the top results. Avocado is popping up everywhere and is meant to be great for your body as well as for your skin. As much as I love avocado on toast, this face mask also worked wonders for my irritated and dehydrated skin!

Here is what you'll need:

½ ripe avocado
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1-2tsp honey

The method is as follows... Add the ingredients one by one into a bowl! So simple and easy.

I half smush the avocado so it is creamy and spreadable but still has a few lumps in it so it has a thicker texture once the other ingredients are added. Avocado has nourishing and hydrating properties as it contains vitamins A & E. Using a fresh, ripe avocado as a mask for a couple of minutes allows the vitamins to seep deeper into the dry layers of the skin to add moisture.

Avocado also has anti-aging properties and is often found in skincare for mature skin. It helps to plump out any wrinkles and bumps on the surface of the skin to make it look more brighter and youthful.

Next up, I added some extra virgin olive oil. This also has nourishing properties and hydrates the skin, just as other oils do too. After adding this in I gave it a good stir and then added some honey in too. Personally I didn't want the mask too sticky or too runny so add as much as you wish!

Honey is natural product used in several beauty products because of its benefits. Brightening and soothing the skin is one of the main aspects as to why it will work so well in this particular face mask.

When applying the face mask, I recommend washing your skin with warm water first to open up the pores and provide a clean base. I also put it in the fridge for amount 5-10 minutes so that the mask is nice and cool when you pop it on your face.

And voila! A natural homemade face mask that smells delicious and does good stuff for your skin too. It is definitely very refreshing and perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. It's also fab for channelling your inner Shrek... or Fiona, if you prefer.

Plus, you can have the other half of the avocado on your toast for breakfast - pamper and feed yourself at the same time!
