Settling In To Full-Time Work After Graduating

I never thought I'd say I miss university life... but I actually kind of do! Well, I really miss the social aspect, seeing friends all the time and having a lot of free time. The late afternoon starts and the early finishes were pretty decent too. Being a student was also the middle ground of being a child and being an actual adult - anyone else agree?

After graduating university, I have found that it was quite challenging to settle into full-time work. Having a 9-5 routine is something that most people may be getting themselves into and it may seem pretty straightforward but it's actually rather difficult.

I thought I'd share some words of wisdom as I feel like I have only just settled into my relatively new job after two months of working.

The only way you will get through a long day or a tough week is by being optimistic. Try and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Open your eyes to the possibilities that are yet to come. Think of the opportunity you are being given. Just keep in mind how you can benefit from this position.

Obviously you are going to have to develop a routine. Getting up at the same time every day would be helpful. Preparing your lunches and dinners for the week can aid in getting on top of everything. Picking your outfit the night before, going grocery shopping, setting alarms... anything that would help make your day easier, do it!

Your desk, office, work area will obviously feel like work. Try and make it feel like home. I see people who put pictures up around their computers, bring little desk plants in, keep snacks in their drawers (definitely me) and keep jumpers on their chairs. Make work feel like a second home because you're going to spend a lot of time their and you need to be comfortable.

Colleagues make work feel so much more better. Becoming friendly with your work peers will help create a better working environment. I absolutely love all of my colleagues at work and I just love how I can come in and know that I can have a laugh with them so everything isn't so serious all the time. Take opportunities to go out with them and build relationships.
